They must have been very hungry as they were pecking away enthusiastically, ignoring the presence of any people around.
One afternoon, two birds found on a slope next to “Sakanoue no Keyaki Park,” one of the guide spots for our guide group. The colorful bird appears to be a “racing homer” and the blackish one, a “feral pigeon.”
Racing homers are said to be pigeons that have been bred to no longer serve as carrier pigeons, a means of communication, but rather to compete in races in which they can return home the fastest from distant locations.
食事に集中の鳥
よほど空腹であったのか、人の気配を物ともせず夢中でついばんでいました。
ある日の午後、われわれガイドグループのガイド拠点の一つ、「坂の上のけやき公園」脇の坂道で見つけた鳥2羽。多彩な色の鳥は「レーシングホーマー（レース鳩）」、黒っぽい鳥は「ドバト」とみられます。
「レーシングホーマー」は、かつての伝書鳩としての通信手段の役割を終え、遠隔地からの帰巣速度を競うレース競技のために品種改良された鳩だそうです。
