We have collected some refreshing works that are suitable for summer.
“Kougou” or incense containers displayed in an antique store (“Jikoh”) in the northwestern part of NISHIOGI.
“Kougou” is a small container with a lid for storing incense. It appeared during the Muromachi Period (1338-1573) and has been used as a tea ceremony utensil or Buddhist altar implement.
Incense and incense containers are used according to the season: for example, in summer, incense wood in a shape called “kakuwari” is placed in incense containers made of wood, bamboo, or lacquer.
Small incense containers are also used for decoration and now seem to be the subject of collection.
ミニマルな消夏の世界
夏季にふさわしい清涼感のある作品を集めました。
西荻北西地区の骨董店(「慈光」)に展示されている、「香合（こうごう）」。
「香合」とは、香を保管する蓋つきの小さな容器のことで、室町時代に登場し、茶道具や仏具として使用されてきました。
香と香合は、季節に応じて使い分けられ、例えば夏季には、木製、竹製、漆器などの香合に、「角割（かくわり）」と称する形の香木が入れられるそうです。
小さな香合は装飾にも用いられ、今や、コレクションの対象にもなっているようです。
